Replacing Sprocket Question

I ordered a 12 tooth front sprocket to replace the 13 that is on there, will i need to get a shorter chain or remove a link? I took my carb apart yesterday and ordered jets, so while it's immobile i want to go ahead and do some other things.

No just adjust the chain to spec and your fine.

There are caveats.
If your chain is close to being maxed out adjustment-wise with a 13, you won't get within a reasonable adjustment range with a 12.
Guess that is pretty self-evident. A 108 is used for both 13/47 and 12/47. As long as the chain is in good shape, it'll do fine.
Another 'everybody has one'....
I've had far better luck with Renthal sprockets of the CSS type than any other. Others (SunStar, J..uh..what is it..K?..the two initial sprocket name) don't fit on the shaft for diddle..way too loose, and they get LOOSER with wear. Renthal doesn't have that problem.

I'll second the Renthals for fit - got em' up front and back and they're quality stuff. 'Guess you get what you pay for . . .

I'll third the renthals. They last well and will be my replacements when the RM needs some. They also make a quality O-ring chain

Parts Unlimited here. Just make sure you change the chain and both sprockets at the same time, or they will wear quickly.

I've found the parts unlimited sprockets & chain to wear a lot faster than renthal stuff. Chain stretches faster and sprockets become hooked quicker. This is with proper lube & adjustment while replacing them at the same time. Can't beat the price though!
