Do you have to remove engine from frame for top end?

We can't get to the shaft advancer thing where the reverse bolt is...

Which model of bike?

If you are referring to the upper end of the governor shaft, you need to remove the metal cover and then pull the rubber sleeve down to expose the notch where the wrench grips the shaft.

we were trying to get to the wrong piece. Pulled the pistons off of both the 200 and 220 today. The 200 is soooo much easier to work on than the 220.

you mean pre 95 200&220 easier to work on than post 95 200 and 220?

just an fyi for future search results.

No, the engine does not have to be removed to pull the top end.

On the kdx220 we removed both of the engine mounts up top, and loosened the left radiator to pull the bolts for those mounts out. We also took off the pipe which made it easier to do. Much easier.

On the older kdx200 it was very easy, pulled the pipe only and the rest was a cake walk.
