'99 CR250 fork performance

Anybody good at advising on these forks?
They are on the Hybrid.
I realize this is a KDX forum, but this CR does have a KDX motor in it.
The deal is the fork action is O.K. the first 3 1/2" of travel, but then gets quite stiff. I don't have many miles on this rig yet, in fact i have yet to take it off my 4 acre yard because I don't want to push it home. I've just been going round and round on my kids track until I have some confidence in its reliability. The handling is nice, the shock feels good and has been resprung and revalved. The fork feels stiff as ##**.
Any help would be appreciated.
