Guy thinks its a 89, I never seen a white kdx. Kind of looks like a 87 to me. It starts second kick ptobaly need a good card cleaning.
What should I look out for?

They also made a red KDX for a few years I think. It depends on what you are looking for. Parts will be harder to find than newer KDXs. Just check it out really well. The plastic would probably be real hard to find in white. If you go green you have to find a complete set. It would be cool to have a 100% original complete KDX in white.

I was thinking 87-88 too. He says the only problem is it idles high. Which would be jetting or carb, right?
Theres a few parts on ebay, bike bandit. I like the green plastics more then white.
I found A parts bike for it already a 86 that needs a piston and rebore he wants 250. Tires and plastic are good its alot cleaner better mantained, I dont know how far the engine problems go. Im pretty sure all the parts are switchable, thats why I want to know the year. I can probaly end up with both for 450, just different directions.
Am I better off buying a parts bike or buying part by part?
Did the water cooled start in 89 or 90?

86, 87, or 88. I had a 87. looked almost just like it except the white and the MX style rear fender. The price is good if you say it runs. Properly running it will spank a water cooled KDX. Do a KX fork conversion and you got a mean bike.

The stator goes bad on those frequently and are impossible to get a new one. I would steer clear myself.

I picked the bike up for $275, he wouldnt go down since he met me half way.
Starts 2-3 kicks so compression is ok, I noticed some loose bolts connecting the head. The throttle cable was too tight and the clutch cable to loose. I got the idle down, at first the screw was almost out didnt do much when I tighten it cuz of the cable. Sprocket and chain are good but need to be tighten also.
Front forks are leaking. I never did forks before should I rebuild and seal? or do the kx conversion?

Breaks are weak but the pads are ok. How do I troubleshoot this?
Almost forgot the carb overflow is spewing out ****. Is this a float problem?

Dump out the old gas. Clean the carb. Get a new air filter. Get a new plug(about 5 of them for plug chops). Get the fork seals fixed. Drain out the old brake fluid and start with new. Bleeding will be nessasary. Change the oil. Check all the hoses and lines for dry rot, and replace if needed. Tighten/Check everything. The list could go on and on. Just try to make it safe/ ridable for now. I'm sure it will need all kinds of bearings and stuff this winter. Where are you located?

You might have a hard time with the base valves on the forks, I could not get them to budge on my 87, I tried heat and still could not get them to budge with a impact. I'm sure FRP has used parts for this bike, I sent him a box load of x-tra parts off of a parts bike that I bought.

Conneticut. I was going to check the Air filter to see if it was a reusable tommorow since ill have a full day.
Im looking at plugs, filters, seals, and cables as I write this. I picked up some spectra cuz he was using it and there wasnt many choices where I went. I sprayed the brakes with brake cleaner dont know how to bleed, what do I need? A manual! I have one for 89-94 might help some. Let me take a peak.
