Log Crossing

I was crossing a log the other day, couldn't have been more than 1-1.5 feet diameter. I was in 2nd or 3rd gear, and I wheelied over it.

On several other occasions, I would come up to a similar log, and sort of kiss my front tire off of it, then throw my bars forward when my rear hit.

My question is, how is the correct way to hit the log? The second technique I've listed is how I usually climb the logs that are 2ft+, but the smaller logs seem all right to wheelie over, didn't throw me off or anything. What do you think?

I think if your wheeling over logs that are 12-18 inchs in diameter in 2 or 3rd gear and going over logs 24 inchs in diameter and greater without any problems you should be giving the majority of us lessons.

Got any videos of your technic to share???

I'm thinking the same exact thing as you IC... If your hitting logs that size in 2nd or 3rd they've been built up and are now a ramp. :D

I'll find a nice log and show you a nice crossing. Maybe I'll even get a nice crash in there too, probably what that video is missing!

That video sucks anyway, and I'm in it!

My sister-in-law rode with us today for the first time.... she has never been in the woods and we took her down log crossing 101 trail. She went over every log on the trail and never lost control or crashed. I was very proud of her.... before we went we went over the basics and she remembered them as I watched her from behind. Some of them were as large as 1 foot in diameter.... that may not seem very big but you must remember that this was on a TTR 125 and she is a beginner.

I got a video of Ondatrail and I crossing a log maybe 15 inches diameter, raised a couple inches off the ground... I think his rear is too stiff and it's kicking him up.

Onda:

Me on the 'zook:

My shock is valved for MX but I've clicked it to where it works and it swallows logs pretty nicely... anything 1ft or smaller I can't even feel. The forks on the other hand,,,, Are clicked to full soft and still a bit harsh.

I've not seen a 'zook move that slowly

Seriously, Ondatrail seemed to be moving around a bit quicker!!

Yea it's definately easier to do everything on the kdx now. Unfortuately I need to stop hitting logs RT180 style (1.stand up 2.hit it 3.shudder and ache afterwards from having no suspension  )

Here is a video of me crossing a log Sunday, it was between 24-28" tall. The video show's two different techniques. The log is on a sloped section of trail, up hill the first time, down hill the second.
