Thinking about a KDX220

Hi guys, I'm in the market for a KDX220R 2002 and up. I will mostly do trail riding but I have to make some open road to get the trails (20 miles). I want to know the autonomy in miles of a stock KDX. What is the maximum cruising speed of a KDX on an open road ? I'm interested by a KDX because I've read here that is a reliable and a low maintenance machine. I will probably ride once a week so I guess I can make some seasons on a top end and a bottom end? Is it true?
Thanks for your help!

Gearing will determine the cruising speed. Stock is a 13/47 combo which in the trail riding world is kinda a tall gear but work OK. I would say 45 to 50 mph should be pretty comfortable. Around 70 would be top speed with that gearing.
I really don't know how long a top end would last using it for road use too... but with the frequency of riding you would be doing, I would say a fresh top end would last you at least a few years. Most go 5 years or so.... and bottom ends are pretty bulletproof.

Twenty miles? I tried that once. Better to trailer it. Your bike will appreciate it.
My 13/50 220R does 75.

I can get 45 when I ride around my big-open fields, I get 60 or better in the woods.

Mileage dpends. The more the bike is on the Main Jet the more Fuel it uses.

I would say 50-60 depending on the conditions

I'm with AZRick -- trailer, truck or carrier for 20 miles.
If you're shopping for a 220 read up on the piston problems posted several times on the site -- especially if you plan on running it max speed for that long. IMHO, I don't think you'll see a huge difference in top speed between the 220 and a 200 that's properly tuned.
Also, what kind of tires do you intend to run?? Can't see many offroad liking that treatment very much.

I'm thinking to run off road tires. Do you think I am better to buy a 4 strokes trail bike like an XR400 ? I want something reliable but I'm little scared that the XR400 will weighing too much for tight trail.
Thanks!

I can't say anything about the XR400 but I just recenty asked about a WR450F here:
