Okay...onto the dual sport conversation again...I just got my title for my kdx200 in the mail. Had it transferred from old owner to me. It states the body type as MC for motorcycle, not OHV for off highway vehicle. Is this a mistake in my favor. If I get a kit with all the street legal accessories what is involved in getting a bike registerred. Insurance, Inspection? Any thoughts

You can do it in Michigan but a 2 stroke won't last long on the road

Thanks for your opinion but there is no law against 2 strokes. No emmision regulation and no where do you have to state whether your bike is 2 or 4 stroke. Plus is has the stock silencer so it is quieter than a stock 4 stroke at 89 decibels. Stock 4 strokes are in the 90's.

Will have to check local laws, but no reason a dual sport kit shouldn't work....I know PA inspection is lienient. Take the guy a case of beer when you get it inspected.

If your title is a mc title you can get a plate . Insurance is easy I have state farm and had no problem. I would insure and plate before you buy a kit to make sure their is not a title problem. I have baja designs works good for me inspection you need turn signals, brake light, hi lo beam head light ,high beam indicator light and horn all need to work with bike off by battery for I think 20 min baja designs has all this for $450

All that is needed after that is pipe guard, chain guard, dot tires, mirror, speedometer and odometer. If you know a inspection mechanic you may not need all this.

Get an XR650 or something... No a 2-stroke dual sport sounds like it would be cool, even though we know how much they like long periods of steady throttle. If I were to do it, it would be a KX500!

I have a friend inspect mine I only have lighting on it but I do not run mine on the road more than about five miles. The inspection mechanic knows this and over looks the rest for me

I'm not interested in long trips. I live in the middle of a small ass town. I want to ride the 5 mile backroad to the 20 mile trail. I love the bike and its lightweight. Adding 6 lbs of electrical isn't going to ruin it on the trail. Kenda trakmaster tires are dot legal and have good knobbies. I already have a trailtech computer. A couple lights and I don't have to trailer the bike to the trail. sounds good to me

Yeah, plus you'd be one of the only(or the only) kdxrider.net members with a street legal kdx.

Uh no he wouldn't. Mine is street legal and I ride it around all the time. But then again this is Arizona and anything with 2 wheels can get registered. I have a headlight, brake light, mirror and a plate and I'm good. I've gotten pulled over before and they didn't care about anything other than headlight and license.
In fact, I'll get some pictures when I super-motard my KDX so that I can take the license test on it. Street tires on a KDX is amazing, wheelies are effortless.

here in Pa in need a everything a street bike has. headlight, brakelight, mirror, horn, speedo, signals, battery so it can run with the bike off. The baja designs kit has everything I need to pass inspection except the speedo which i already have. Now all I need is the cash to get it, get insured which is $75 per YEAR, register and plate it. I'll let you know how everything goes.

For a short trip mine is great to much vibration for more than 5-10 miles I run no bead lock in front and two bead locks in rear. If I can only ride 3-4 hours I gear up and ride their more than that on the truck. I have had to limp home 2 times on flats

much nicer to load with flat than ride

What are you getting flats on. I wouldn't think rocks would flat a tire and a tube? I have had my bike for 2 months now. No experience here with these tires yet. I had an atv before with tubeless tires. I took brand new kendas on their first ride in the rocks and got a flat. Put tire slime in and for almost a year had no tire problems. Not even losing air. I was sold on the slime. Now thats a tubeless atv tire.
