At the moment I have put a 1.5" spacer on top of the original spacer in my 91 kdx200. This has improved things so the front suspension feels stiffer. I am still wanting better suspension however as when I go across the deep whoops the bikes front suspension dives and I begin to get a see saw motion going, I have to ride the rear suspension alot but this is very tiring. Is there anyway of making the bike go across the whoops in a more level fashion. Maybe a bit more plush. KX forks are to expensive for me so thinking of .38kg xr400 fork springs. Ive heard of people putting these in there bike and all say hat it was a big improvement but will it be a big improvement over what ive already done. If so can you please state what year xr400 fork springs I need or what I need I weigh 150Lbs.

It’s the 1996-99 0.38kg/mm XR400 springs that are interchangeable and commonly used in 1995 to 2007 KDX200/220s

ALSO, springs from '00-'04 XR400's at a rate of 0.40kg/mm can be used in '95 to '06 KDX's.

BUT, he doesn't have an 'H' series kdx, now does he? Go to the suspension section and check out the "xr springs" thread. You can use stock springs from a '95-06 kdx200/220, you can also use xr250 springs.

I just received my service manual, now I know more stuff. Is there any way around a hook wrench when setting the sag? I don't have one of those.

Hello, I have a 1991 E series KDX will the xr springs fit this or what is the best way to go for a kdx of this year.

Motofox, If you were to look on ebay for kdx springs, you would find a guy who is selling a stock set from a '95-'06 series kdx. You can probably get them cheap, a fine upgrade from your current springs.

I think I may have a set in the garage I will send ya... lemme check tomorrow.

XR400 springs will work for the E series forks. I ran a set of 0.38kg's for quite a while before switching to a set of KX forks. You'll need to make a new preload spacer. Try for something along the lines of 3-5mm of preload. 7wt oil 110mm from the top. It makes a noticable difference for the stock forks.

IMO giving that you want to ride woops and weigh about 150 lbs I would suggest a preload in the neighborhood of 10-15 mm or so assuming you use either .38 or .40 fork springs. Might need to adjust your oil viscosity to 10 weight to help control rebound issues and adjust oil height for bottoming control.

You should likely set your rear suspension rider sag in the neighbor of 95 mm. ( Have you played with the clickers on the rear shock?)

This set-up will not be ideal for trail riding but but for deep whoops or sand riding it will likely save you a few crashes.

I did indeed give Spawn my stock .35kg/mm springs.


BUT............


I also put him onto a brand spanking new set of 98 KX250 forks. He has tracked down a wheel, axle/spacers and a caliper so far. He basically needs a top clamp, fork guides/guards and the machine work done before he can swap em over. I'm sure if I ask him nice enuf he would be happy to send them your way if you cover postage costs. The biggest problem is, it more than likely wont be finished for a few months though. He is in Tasmania too so he is REAL close to you, shipping shouldn't be too bad.
