New to KDX. Have brand new 04 220. Engine is a little noisey but heard that KPS is known to make noise.

Read on Thumpertalk that some people recommend adding additional oil to quiet down the engine

Thought I would ask the gods here on this site because you guys know the most about the KDX.

Thanks for your time.

Yep 1 full quart will help the noise and won't hurt your tranny. I use Valvoline 10-40, but any decent brand will be fine.

Sounds like good advice so far. Just don't use synth's that have friction modifiers. Check the lable on the oil container. Also, do a search here as there's lots of good info and opinions on oil types.

The best, and only, oil to use is Castrol 20w-50. One full quart.
The best, and only, premix oil to use is Golden Spectro mixed at 42:1.

Just trying to cause trouble.

Thanks guys. I will try a full quart. I am using Shell Rotella T - dino. Have a rekluse clutch in my WR450 and the oil is cheap and seems to be working good. I change oil frequently. After every 2 - 3 rides.

Not only no synth..but nothing dino with friction modifiers in it, either. If it is labeled 'Improves mileage' or some such, it is NOT for a wet clutch.

ANY motor oil approved for wet clutch applications is fine.

Some run ATF. Some like that some don't. IF I was running ATF I'd use a Ford type (organic clutches)...but I don't.

It's not the KIPS that makes the noise..it's the clutch. Notice how things quiet down in neutral when you pull the clutch lever.....

Anecdotal and all, but I use a full quart for an oil change, but 1-150ml or so of that is a chaser I dump in before putting the drain plug back in. Sort of a 'rinse' if you will.

Your next question: 'How come I can't push my bike in gear with the engine off and the clutch pulled without skidding the back tire?'

Because it's a KDX.

Don't pay attention to KarlP...he's an old 450 4T rider.

....oh...........
