Well, i think the clutch is fixed now, after filing the grooves out of the basket, and using a different oil. Buuuuuuuut, after my test ride, i saw some anti-freeze under the bottom fitting on the radiator. Im not sure if it happened during that ten miniute ride, or was already broken. The fitting is at an angle, like it was either hit, or blew out. But after looking closer, i think it might have been like that. A piece of paint was sticking up, so i pulled it off. It looked like there was a bead of seal or something on it that would have been where the leak was. First, i was wondering if the clutch problem could have been linked to the rad. problem or vise-versa. Second, can i just seal the crack on he rad with something? Im a certified welder, but i think most rads have to be soldered or brazed. Any thoughts? Thanks, Rick.

Can you put a photo of it on here? If it is the radiator itself, many local automotive radiator repair shops can and will fix it for about $50 or so. Since you do weld, I think you could solder it up yourself, or braze it for that matter.

I can try to get a pic. I dont think its too bad. Just kinda drippin right now.

Is it not aluminum?
You should flush it and use something to clean the area very good, antifreeze will cause the weld or braze to leak. as hot as you have to get brass it may damage the aluminum, never tried to braze aluminum though.

To add a photo from the gallery, just view the photo, right click on it, copy the image location. Then in your thread post, bracket the photo's link (image location) with this: immedately following the link.

So to get your photo on this thread, it would look like this:

Damn. I was so close. Not very good pics, but you can see what im talking about. There was paint on it till i pulled it off.

That Durafix stuff I have seen in person at a bike show. It is brilliant stuff. He was using it at the show to repair snapped clutch/brake levers and when he tried to break them, they broke at a different part to where he had repaired.

Gonna have to get some! So, is the radiator deffinatly aluminum?

Before y'all run out and stock up on Alumalloy or whatever, you might do some research on it.

In a nutshell: It's like JBWeld...sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. BUT..if you have to look up Mr. Tig-man to REPAIR it after you FIX it, he's gonna cuss you good AND if he charges you for the time and material he uses to get the job done right, you won't be happy neither.

It would be good for fixing things that really didn't matter. I read about one guy that always carries some when he goes canoeing. Got a sharp rock tear? Great! No TIG 50 miles from nowhere, and the boat's gotta get fixed.

Or...if you really want to fix that Pepsi can the guy 'solders' in the Duraweld video.

Personally, I'd just go buy another can!


I've got to get an aluminium kickstand fixed. The freebie I got from ski only lasted a year or so!! What a piece!!! (kidding, of course!) Maybe IT was put together with Alladin 1-2-3, cuz it broke right at the 'weld'! It got nailed pretty good yesterday. If it got hit 1/2 as hard as I crunched my head..it should'a broke!

Update. I got the rad off the bike this evening. The good news is it was temporarly fixed by the previous owner with some kind of sealant. Not a new problem. Looks like the whole fitting, or at least half of it was torn away from the rad. They gooped that stuff ( what ever it was, looks like wood glue color) all the way around. I think if i take it to a rad shop, they can fix it. If not, do any of you guys know if a kx rad would work?

A shop will be able to fix that easily. I tore a radiator (peg and shifter) completely off my YZ and it was $80 to repair the radiator. It came back looking good as new so yours will be a simple fix for someone in the industry.

They will cuss the glue job. Do yourself a favor by doing them the favor of cleaning it off as well as you can and TELLING them about it when you take it in.

If you can get it clean enough (a torch would probably help), why not try summa that alumarod stuff?
