Ricky Stator Magic!

Here's a copy of an email I sent to Ricky Stator this morning---doesn't get much better than this, guys.

Subject: new stator

Rich, Pat, etc....

I'm thrilled, to say the least. Just installed your C31 coil in my 1990 KDX200
and the magic is back. After wrestling with 3 Electrex coils over the last 10
months---none of which ran anything similar to the stock stator coil---I finally
have my bike and it's performance back. If your coil lasts a good long while,
I will sound your praises in the discussion boards on the net. It was such a
thrill to fire her up last night and feel the front end snap right up in 3rd and 4th
gear---just like it used to. I don't know what the difference is between your coil
and the Electrex version, but it's night and day. No more kickback upon starting.
No more flat power response. Just that good old low end grunt followed by
startling snap when the power valves open at 6,000 rpm.

Thrilled in Tallahassee,
Jay

...and their response!

happy and always glad to hear happy guys back at it!

i hope you never have a problem but, please let us know if you do as we have never lost that coil to whatever reasons

if it dies in 10 years i still wanna know and you will get an apology and a new coil

some difference may be that we 'wet wind' our coils to insure there is no way (hopefully, hehe) water will get in and also when a magnet (flywheel) passes by any coil of mag wire (stator coil) there is something known as the motor effect which wants to move the coil and when there is a loose wire it will move and given enough moves it will chaff and fail

little fact that may be useful someday

thanks again-ricky

KDX200 coil/C31 is the stator shown for Suzuki RS LT250/500R source coil.

Cheap too!! :partyman:

I wonder if the 130W Suzuki RS LT250/500R Lighting coil would work in the KDX as well? It looks about the right size. I'll email Ricky and see if he can give me some measurements and i'll compare it to my stock lighting coil and the aftermarket moose/electrex lighting coil.

Would you say the new coil is better than the oem coil ever was? You said, 'It's back,' which maybe means as good as?

...or better? Probably hard to judge considering the problems you've had over so many coil installs.

re: motor effect

There's a REASON windings of most any sort are all glaumed together with a mess of potting compound, varnish...SOMEthing. ..and that's it!

Good to hear a good report on work/service done!!

I mean "as good as" the oem coil. The Electrex coil never quite got things running right. Plenty of evidence from others as well over at you know where---as you are quite aware, I'm sure! The Electrex product was a step down in performance and reliability. Time will tell if Ricky Stator passes the reliability test----but the performance test is A++.

Hallaleujah!

I am glad you are back in business. Congratulations on getting it solved.

Have you done a resistance check on the old vs new? I would be interested in the difference.

I'll tempt anyway! The last Electrex to bite the dust came in at 200 ohms.
The new coil was 350 out of the box--a little low, I thought---but it works just fine. Reliability will be the issue. Performance is not. So there! Harumph!!
