87 KDX Piston Options

Hi Guys, quick question. I have an 87 KDX200 that I am putting together. I have a Wiseco 711M06600 piston that came with the bike when I bought it that I would like to use. I find it interesting that this piston is listed as fitting 1986 to 2006 KDX200's (both air cooled and liquid cooled engines). With this in mind I had a couple questions.

#1. Do the air cooled and liquid cooled bikes both share the same exact piston? In other words, for my own sanity check, does it make sense that Wiseco could make one piston that would work across both air and liquid cooled models? My gut feeling is that even if they are the same basic piston shape, wouldn't an air-cooled piston and liquid cooled piston have slightly different geometries due to different operating temperatures ranges?

#2. Has anyone on the board ran the 711M06600 in their 86 - 88? Any complaints, observations or issues found?

#3. Should I be considering a stock NOS piston over the Wiseco? Are there any other piston options I should consider?

Just want to get a sanity check before I put everything together. I'm going to measure everything in the next couple of days. Will try to post piston to wall clearance #'s soon. Thanks!

Just to follow up, I am currently measuring 0.0024" piston to wall clearance. The bore has been replated previously.

The KDX manual says that piston to wall clearance should be .0024 - .0030 so I am on the low side. I know the forged pistons can expand a bit more than the stock cast pistons hence my reservations. I have a message out to Wiseco to get their input. The replate / piston were completed by a previous owner (I bought this bike as a partially complete project) so I am missing some history / supplier documentation.

I have a stock NOS piston on order. The KDX manual states a piston diameter of 2.5960 - 2.5966 (the Wiseco measured 2.5966 / I think its a "C" piston). So I am thinking the stock piston should work with this replated bore if the Wiseco ends up being deemed "too tight".

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Just putting down my thought process as I go and hoping anyone catches any errors before it's too late! Thanks!
