Hello from UK

Hello forum members.
Just recently acquired my first KDX200, which needs some work to get it ready to ride, but not 100% sure of the model year, the registration document says it's a '91, but the front end looks very different with U/D forks, different master cylinder and twin piston caliper. Maybe some knowledgeable people on here can help me with further identification.

I used to do a lot of off road riding in the 80's, 90's and 00's initially on PE's and later IT's, and looking to get back into it again. Always fancied a KDX back in the day, as a friend had an early a/c 175, but it took me another 2 decades to put one in my garage!

Looking forward to connecting with you all and have added a couple of pictures below

Hello UK rider! Nice to meet you. Your KDX is handsome and one of your photos reveals the common affliction known as MAS (Motorcycle Acquisition Syndrome).

This hyperlink to a Kawasaki vehicle identification number (VIN) decoder may / may not help. But, it's free to use. If it fails, then it's because the decoder is USA-centric. There may be a UK version.

Hopefully, there are one or more areas for you to ride off-road that are close to where you live. This makes riding more fun.

Appears to be a pre '95 bike, so would be an E-series. Since the 220R didn't come out until the '95 and newer (H model), unless someone put a 220 motor into an E series frame, you've likely got a 200.
Also, it looks like someone may have upgraded your front end, so you'll want to figure out what forks and wheel brake caliper etc make it up so when it's time for maintenance you get the correct parts.

Hello billie, thanks for the warm welcome and yes, I am suffering with MAS! lol

If you have a link to a VIN decoder that may help me nail down what I have actually purchased

There are some great lanes nearby to me, though not as many as there were 20+ years ago, but the best riding was always in more remote areas of the UK

Hi there brademan, your assessment that it's an E series appears spot on, and the lump has 197cc on the side, so def a 200, though with an upgraded front end, which has already caused an issue with maintenance, as the brakes were atrocious (see pic of fluid below) and after stripping and cleaning them I found that the front master cylinder doesn't appear to be standard, so the seal kit I bought doesn't fit (though the rear mc and both caliper repair kits fit fine)
I'm not sure what front mc I have, but it appears to have a 1/2" bore and the seal kit is smaller than this. Would you know what the std bore was for the front mc on a twin piston caliper E model?

Greetings and welcome, very nice bike.

What you may have there for a 91 is the KDX200SR G3, they came with the USD forks, twin piston front caliper. The part number for the master cylinder were different from the E and G series and the part number for the G series cylinder changed from 89-91, the part number for the 92-93 are the same, the part number for the MC piston kit 43020-1065 is the same for the 89-93 G series, it is a different part number from the E series, but if that master cylinder is not the OEM one this I am afraid won't help much.
