KX owner from WV

I have a 93 KX 125 I got from a buddy who started to restore it. I had to split the case and have hot rods put a new connecting rod on the crank and I replaced the piston with a stock bore one. Ran the bike for a few seasons and had a spark plug let go on me and trashed the piston.

I have been considering selling the bike to pick up something newer, only because it’s hard to source parts for this bike. I really don’t want to sell it, but I hate worrying about braking something and not being able to source it.

I’ve always wondered if I could stuff a newer 125 engine in it, but a KDX 200 engine would be even better. A KDX is a dream bike for me, I’d sell the 125 to pick one up, but this bike is clean and I know what’s been done to it. That and I see a few similar era KXs 125 and 250 for sale locally that have been on the market for awhile.

Long story short, I’m browsing on here to see what can be done without major surgery. I will dig through stickies and write ups to see what’s been done. I really don’t want to reinvent the wheel.

Welcome and nice bike! A KDX engine should slide in there without too much of a fuss. Hope you find the info you need but don't be afraid to ask questions.

Due to that being not the most desirable year of KX 125 engines, I would absolutely stuff a KDX 200 engine into that thing... Whatever water cooled KDX200 or KDX220 engine you could find, any year of the water cooled 200/220 era 1989-2006 will be great, with the exception of the '89-'93 KDX200SR & '94-?? KDX220SR, those were detuned street legal models with oil injection but we're not available in North America whatsoever, only internationally.
