Hi fellow KDX enthusiast!!

First off I have owned my 04 KDX for about 10 years and about 5 years ago I had Jeff Fredette bore the OEM carb for me. . Once I got it back I went through a thorough jetting process, got it dialed in & ran great for years. Recently I have carb issues. The bike runs poorly on the bottom end and is very rich. The bike will not idle and there is "0" change to how the bike acts/idles when the air/fuel screw is adjusted. If I ride wipe open constantly it runs great but if I am out trail riding leisurely it spits and spudders through a few gears before it opens up after not riding hard (and will die if I am not giving it any throttle). I have cleaned the carb time and time again, New jets, New jet block gasket, Set float height etc. & there is no change. I am open to suggestions and also open to a new carb option if there are any available.

hello brahear, sorry to hear of your carb woes but lucky for u there is plenty of help here. and lots of experience too. years and years ago I bought an genuine pwk (pricey) and a couple years ago I got a cheap Amazon pwk air striker(very cheap) and both have been hanging in there for years now. unfortunately our loved kdx are getting some age and carbs wont last forever. a few situations have came up that replicates your problem that I can pass along. back bout 10 years ago 1 was almost done with a hare scramble and it started acting up same as yours, I was lucky I made it to the finish before I fouled the plug. turns out it was a pin hole in the float, another time I was experimenting with the timing and advanced was pretty much the same but retarded nade the idle circuit rich, back to the middle where it's supposed to be and back to normal. as others suggest check reeds and if your lucky maybe just flipping the reeds will seal it . I have seen others in the past drop the needle and put a really small pilot in to fix it but that is just a band aid for the problem and not the correct way of going about it. I hate to tell u this but I've saw crank seals go bad and do the same as your describing(most expensive fix). please don't give up because the kdx is truly the best trail bike ever made. I have 4 now and if I could live another 100 years I will still be on a kdx.
