200/220 water pump bearing question

I rebuilt the water pump on a spare cover I had that I am going to sell on eBay, all cleaned up and ready to install. Just had one concern. The (KOYO) water pump shaft bearing I used for the water pump had dust seals on each side. I noticed the stock bearing only had a dust seal on one side, the side that was facing out of the engine. I removed the dust shield on the side facing into the engine just like stock. I figured it would get oil much better that way. Merry Christmas everyone!

Good call and thanks for the reminder, I also have a water pump rebuild to do, think from memory they use the same water pump seals as Honda, my Honda scooter has 150,000klms on it so I think going with the Honda seal kit is a safe bet

Yea, if I could go back I would have went with the oem but it is what it is now. I also noticed the bearing slightly protruded maybe a half mm. Didn’t compare dimensions with the old one but I’m thinking it is a non issue as the water pump shaft end that goes into the crankcase seems to show marks that the end could easily offset slightly deeper into the corresponding bearing in the right crank case. I definitely wasnt getting the bearing to sink in any deeper. If the Honda one is the same then I would definitely agree to use it based off your experience. It would still technically be an oem part

When I do my water pump rebuild I'll use the Honda part and post about it, I think it's a cbr125 water pump seal

That's good to know in case we ever need an alternate source for the KDX water pump parts, thanks!
