Hey guys! I just got my 2000 KDX220R running well. It has a mystery LED headlight that the previous owner left unplugged. I know nothing about it, and I just picked up a light switch from Cycle Gear. How do I wire it up?

Most LED lights need DC power to run. Sadly, KDX's only put out AC current and only about 30 watts. You need to use a regulator/rectifier to convert AC to DC. Of course, when you rectify AC to DC you approximately half your wattage available. You really need to upgrade the lighting coil to go along with a regulator/rectifier to power any decent lighting.

Of course, the other option is you can run a battery pack to power the light which you will need to recharge after each use. My buddy is running an 18 watt LED light bar with a 12v/8300mah battery pack and it can run 8+ hours before needing a recharge.

Thanks! I am okay with rewinding the coil if I need to. any helpful resources one how to do so? Also do you know what wattage/voltage this particular headlight requires!

Unfortunately the wattage information is usually printed on the headlight housing which appears to be all hacked up on your particular unit. Looks like a Chineseum special, so likely not super bright on the stock lighting coil. You could just hook it up and see how it works, though it will flicker, especially at idle.
