I picked up a 2002 KDX200 yesterday. Never ridden one before. 150 on my compression gauge, no play in the flywheel. Don't think the bike has been abused too badly as she's in decent condition and runs well. FMF Gnarly and silencer on the bike, a few other aftermarket parts.

Ran her around the house today (live in the country) and she rips pretty well.

Plans right now are to change the gear oil, new coolant, fresh air filter, and do a chain and sprocket set at some point. Tires down the road as well. Looking to get back into trail riding and maybe a hare scramble or two next year.

Coming from an XR400 and a cr125. My first overall impressions - good usable power, decent lug down low, mid is very strong, and there's enough of a power band up top to pop the front wheel in third, probably fourth too. I'd like to add some kinda steering stabilizer at some point, I was afraid to open her up at speed as she does not feel as stable as the old XR400.

A lot of spooge - maybe I'm hesitant to rev this bike like my 125. How high are you supposed to rev these bikes? Also running 32:1 - might go 40:1, see if that helps. Will keep riding and see what I can come up with.

Welcome. Congratulations on the KDX. Read up on greasing the linkage and steering bearings. Changing fork oil and shock oil would help, too.

She's running good. Been making loops around the property and picking up speed. These bikes are great!

If jetting is stock, going up to 40:1 will make it run more rich, keep that in mind. More fuel/less oil. Air to Fiel Ratio is what makes it rich vs lean, now how much oil there is in the mixture to be partially combusted and the rest vaporized.

Just pay attention to how it ran prior to how it then runs if you change the premix ratio. If you stick with 40:1, its strongly recommended to play around with jetting, as it may need leaned out slightly to improve the efficiency and power delivery, as well as reduce the spooging.
