So, my hybrid is running the stock KDX220 rear brake system (master cylinder/caliper/rotor) with a stainless rear brake line and EBC pads. Would really like to smooth out the binary nature of the current setup. What has everyone done to make their rear brakes better?

Try running organic rear pads. It helps with them not being as much an on/off setup. Be aware that organics do not last as long in muddy conditions and can overheat faster.

SS109, excellent suggestion that actually works well in some situations.

Because of the east coast mud I’ve stuck with cheapo brand Neutron sintered pads, but adjust my rear brake tip downwards slightly from standard position and this helps some. Neutrons do seem to do the job well for the $ though, really no complaints and they certainly last.

Do any of you ever chamfer the edge?

Chamfering to help install the wheel faster? I've been thinking about doing that but haven't yet.

I have run sintered pads mostly because half the year its muddy and the other half I'm riding too much to bother, but lately they have been especially touchy. Have deglazed the pads and the rotor, didn't seem to change much. Made sure that the pedal is adjusted so I'm not dragging the rear and overheating it. Have never chamfered the pads, not sure that would make much difference as the wear on the pads appears to be pretty even. Running a steel braided line, and the stock rotor. Think I may try a wave rotor, I have a solid one but have never run it as I tend to stay out of those types of conditions anymore when I ride lol. Just would be nice to have a bit of rear modulation available before it just locks up. Been looking at other bikes to see if there are larger rear master cylinders available that might work, but they all pretty much look about the same.
