Casey Folk’s Vegas to Reno - Longest off-road race in USA - Best in the Desert …

Has anyone here ever been to this event or even raced it? We are planning to drive out from Virginia and race it next year as a 50+ Open Amateur four-man team. Eventually, I’d want to Iron Man it once I’ve got experience if I can.

We’re using an XR650R that’s setup for desert racing so that will be interesting.

Next month I am going out to volunteer for the event and get the lay of the land. I learned about this event when I was in Vegas a few months ago and stopped at Sportsman Cycles in Vegas. It was Casey Folks’ old shop. He was the first Husqy dealer in Nevada and a racing cohort of the slightly more famous Malcolm Smith.

Should be a hoot!

Back in the early 2000s I was TDY out at Tonopah Test Range and we went out to watch about 20 miles from the start. The dust was thick, the sand deep and full of rocks, and those guys were FLYING. I couldn't imagine running 500 miles through that terrain on a bike, but it is fun to watch.

We are not racing it till 2025. I’m hoping to go out and volunteer this year to get some insight.
