How to remove carburetor needle? 1990 KDX200

I'm having trouble removing my carburetor needle to check and/or replace it, and neither my mechanic neighbor or redneck neighbor could figure it out either. Is there a certain way to twist, push or pull to get it out? I'm having really high idle in neutral which settles significantly when I pull the clutch when in gear. I suspect I have a needle issue. Thank you!

Unscrew the top of the carb and pull the slide assembly out. Remove the throttle cable from the slide then unscrew the needle holder from the slide and remove the needle. Very well illustrated in the service manual and the Cyclepedia. Regardless, doesn't sound like a needle issue unless the needle is hanging up in its bore and keeping the slide open. I would suggest tearing the carb down, cleaning it thoroughly (without dipping it...never dip your carb) and rebuilding it with fresh o-rings and jets.

Thank you, I have the manual but still couldn't get it. I did clean it/ rebuild it, just not the needle. I'll give it another shot.

yeah, doesn't sound like the needle, unless it is bent and hung up

beyond that, any air leaks?

idle set correctly?
