I'm putting on '03 forks and have the stock caliper and line. I got some stock fork guards that assume you have the KX brake line routing that goes down the front of the fork. I'd rather stick with the KDX routing, but need a way to attach a clamp to the guard. I've seen Ski's method, but he's got the high dollar Carbon Fiber fork guards, and mine don't seem stiff enough at all to hold the line in position, plus as the fork compresses , it would bind on the fork guard guide on the upper tube.

Anybody that has mounted it KDX style, how'd you do it?

When I was deciding which way to go on mine.... I noticed that the brakeline being in the same position for 10 years kinda formed it that way and it didn't want to do anything but stay in perfect position... even while riding.... Go figure!

Mike - Just drill two holes at the edge and use ziptys to secure the brake line or pop rivet the brake line clamp sideways and use that.

Morie, If I do that, then I have to take off the guide that the fork protector slides inside, otherwise it'll jam up. Right?

Yeah, you'll have to go sans guides. I don't think they are really needed though. My fork guards are plenty strong without them and a lot of bikes don't have the guides anymore.

Yup, loose the guides. Also, those carbon fiber guards aren't too expensive if you find them on eBay. I got mine for about $20, and I've seen them buy-it-now for about $50. They are hugely stiffer than the stock plastic ones.

If you mount a home-made bracket like mine, it helps the plastic ones become stiffer as well. You might find something like a late model guard would fit with some mods. Like the yamahas. If you could get your hands on a set cheap, it might be worth the try anyway.

CM, I did exactly as Ski and I used Acerbis plastic guards. I epoxied the back too, just like Ski.

If you're looking for a line holder to bolt to that fancy-schmancy bracket of yours...take a look at the Yamaha clamp (any new blue).

I just re-used my stock KDX "line holder" AKA clamp with the home-made bracket.

that's what I was gonna do (re-use the stock bracket), but since I'm so lazy, now I'm thinking zip-thai.

Take some extra ties with you. You'll need it when one breaks.

The stock clamp is straight.

The Yamaha clamp has a curve to it.
