Fork and shock work

I have a 98 200 and obviously am not the original owner. I’m trying to do right by this machine and do whatever improvements that will help. So the meat of my question, is there a way to tell without disassembly if there has been any upgrades installed in the forks or shocks? I don’t want to buy gold valves only to discover the work has already been done. There’s no way to contact previous owners to ask.

I think Race Tech shocks are stamped with their name and spring weight. That's all that I can think of that may be seen without disassembly, but I'm not an expert.

If they don't have a sticker from a tuner, it may not have been apart.
Are you planning on doing the work yourself?

Only way is to pull them apart really. But you should be changing your suspension oils on a new (to you) bike regardless, so it’s prime time to take a look.

Unless you are dying to ride and want to chance it instead of doing the slow and sure way take one end apart and see if anything is broken besides just worn.
I sell a shock rebuild kit, if that is something you are looking to do:
