i'm looking for a gas tank for 1982 kdx 175. there doesn't seem to be too many options. when i google it i find 2 options on "just gas tanks", and judging by the pictures, neither of the clarke tanks look like they would fit. any ideas of where to look are appreciated. thanks

If you don't want a Clarke, then OEM is your only option, I think.

Hi buzzard, I have been scanning for parts for a few months now while rebuilding my 1980 KDX175 and Clarke is the only source I have come across. Ebay has a tank listing once in a while. There is one other long shot - the tank restorer JSD Racing sez:
For services purchased on this page, we do not supply the tanks. If you need a finished tank, You can CONTACT US to locate a tank for finishing.
Their refinishing starts at $165 so they would want to charge this on top of the used tank cost. Pricey but their results look pretty nice:

but are they able refurbishing "browned" tanks ? Do they paint the tank or the result of the pic is due to the plastic virtually renewed ?

Probably best to contact them; all I did was came across their web site. They do state:

"We do not use floor wax, paint, or plastic renewal during our restoration process."

And they seem to offer to try and locate a tank if need be. I'd consider it a long shot and pricey but would figure that with more eyes looking, the more likely a tank would be found.

The kx tanks from the very early 80s will fit. I had a kx 125 tank from 81 on one of mine. Also the kdx 250 tank will fit with a few tweaks. And lastly, if you can find one, the metal tank from the 175 B model will fit., although you will need the shorter B seat as well. The tank was fitted to the klx and ke models from around then so look out for them also.
