New User, Old Bike

Hello!

I've recently come into possession of a 1990 KDX 200. The bike was purchased new by my uncle in 91, and saw a lot of trail riding. For a few years, he rode it in some AMA D-14 events, including a few rounds at the Silverdome. In the early 2000s, he switched to quads and it mostly sat in the shed at our property in northern MI.

This weekend, a deal was struck and I bought it home.

For the most part, the bike is in great shape aesthetically. Most everything on the bike is original, sans the silencer and handlebars.

Mechanically, she hasn't fared as well unfortunately. While most of the bearings seem to be in good shape, everything rubber is about shot. I am in the midst of collecting parts, but the big thing right now is to rebuild the master cylinders and calipers. The teardown and "restoration" will be cataloged in another thread in the near future. For now, here's a few quick photos from before I begin to tear things apart:

That bike has a great history so it needs some TLC and stay in the family. Will make for a great project for the remainder of your summer and into your Northern Michigan winter. Take plenty of before, during and after pictures.

Welcome! Thanks for joining and participating.

The first thing that struck me was the light blue fork boots. SWEET!!

Good luck on the project.

Great looking bike! A bit envious, I have the 1989 so very similar design but not as nice as yours and still original plastics by the looks of it :)

Sorry for being late, it has been a hectic few months... Spent most of the fall shuffling around race cars and getting some late season ATV rides in with my friends.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. Yes, the bike is exceedingly original (down to the coolant..). Plastics and whatnot are in great shape considering their age. I will be providing more detail in my build thread, but I am excited to get this thing back on the trail!
