Hello all. I recently got back into riding after 25 years. My grandson talked “Santa” into bringing him a KTM 65 for Christmas and of course I had to take it for a spin. Well a couple of BRRAAPs later and I had the fever again and started looking on CL. I came across a mint 02 220 that still had the original tires, and the frame paint had no wear marks. The tires still had 90% tread and were not dry rotted. I had not had a KDX before I raced a KX 250 in the late 80s. I reallly like the ability to ride slow and not stall. It will also “mountain goat” up a hill. I read the pistons were junk and promptly replaced it with a Wiesco. The old piston looked like it maybe had a tank of gas run through it. I am in process of getting the suspension set up for me and making a set of Fastway Air EXT pegs fit. Also just put a Shinko fatty on the front and a cheater on the back. Ready to ride some single track some where.

welcome! Reads as if you have a grip on the situation regarding the must do's on a KDX. I suppose as opposed to turning gray, you are turning green-

Spl383, thanks for the welcome. I have just sent my head out RB For the mod, I figured I’d get the mods out of the way and not fight tuning/jetting every time the weather changes. Since you live in Carrollton where do you ride, I am in Anna , the closest place to me is Jack Barnett’s in Denison?
I am looking for a place to ride for a couple hours in the evening 2-3 times a week for exercise. I’d rather ride than go to a gym.

Red River motorcycle trails is an awesome place. Work your way to “Bill’s Woods” when you get there. As an alternative, going East...head to Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area in Gilmer TX. This too is an awesome place. 23 mile single track loop well marked.
Unfortunately, there is not much in the immediate DFW area.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the compliments. I’m planning a trip to Red River for sometime this summer, my neighbor has been going there for years and says it great. I do have to get in better shape before doing anything too extreme. I’ve done all the suggested mods (thanks again everyone) so now I am the only hold up. I have a new chain on the way, the original (yes the factory chain) seems to stretch after about 20 minutes.
