Hello y’all
I am a first time owner of a 2004 KDX 220. I bought it last Wednesday for $1500,00. The bike is clean and runs great. Coming off a KLR250 this thing has awesome power and a blast to ride.
After reading about pistons coming apart and this bike never had the top end off that was until today. Installed a Wiseco piston and now have to break it in.
Thanks to all on this forum for all the info. I hope to contribute when I get more familiar with this bike.
I love this bike!

Welcome!
Speaking of Texas, ever been to Red River Motorcycle Trails? 1hr 45 mins north of Dallas. My buddies and I are thinking of doing a winter trip this year 18'-19'.

RRMT will NOT disappoint. Unbelievable trail system and home to a Red Bull Last Man Standing event. Graham Jarvis also puts on clinics there.
Be sure to download a map and find Bill's woods. Single track heaven. RRMT can be as easy or as hard as you make it.
Look me up if you are headed that way. I'm always looking for a reason to head out to Muenster (the nearest town to RRMT with an authentic German butcher shop with in house made sausage, cheeses, kolaches, etc, etc).
As I said initially, you will not be disappointed. It's a staple around here. Lots of youtube vids, some of my own, which don't do it justice.
