KDX 200 Clutch Spring Direction

So, I'm replacing my KDX200 clutch with a Tusk one. I'm putting it back together and can't find out which direction this large, ring shaped spring goes. Part 92144-1522 . I'm not home right now to take a picture, but here's a picture of it that I found on google:

You can run it without the judder springs.

I put mine with the large side facing in on the plates and the thin side against the clutch hub. But like Timtee, you do not have to run it. When I got my '89, it didn't have it and the clutch worked fine. Being OCD, when I replaced my clutch I put one in.
