will the right side just slide off if I take the 9 bolts that mount it out? I know I have to drain the oil and coolant but do I have to do anything to the kip shaft or the water pump before I can take the right side off?

You will need to disconnect the KIPS. What does the service manual say on it? Do you have a service manual?

I see in the manual how to disconnect the kips now. but it doesn't say anything about the water pump. does it just easily slide off its gear? and also it says when I remove the big clutch bolt ( the one that is 65 ft lb) I need to hold the magneto still so the clutch doesn't turn. i don't have the flywheel holder tool to do that. is there another way i could keep the clutch from turning?

Spin the clutch nut off with an impact wrench, you won't need to hold anything. Once you disconnect the KIPS it will come right off.

Have you read about putting a penny between gears?

Like bufftester mentioned, an impact gun works pretty well. I used an electric harbor freight, 1/2" drive one and it spun that nut right off no problem. I've seen tons of mentions of people using a penny to jam the gears too, like Jason mentioned. I was nervous about doing it that way, so I didn't... but tons of people have done that with no problems.
