So, I decide to put a heavier duty rear spring on my '93. I get the job done and discover that the rollers on the bottom shock mount bearing are falling out. Neglect from P. O. wore this bearing out. Now everything is gone except the outer ring case of the bearing. And it doesnt want to come out. Any suggestions on how to remove it?

Lots of heat, a small chisel and hammer. I just did linkage bearings for a guy, was so bad it took half the day just to get them out! Once hot you can either drive it out with a socket that's just smaller or work it out with the chisel.

Ced64k.......someone else told me to use a press to remove and install new bearing.........I like your ideas....will try them.

I would try to put a socket into the bore and press the outer race out first.

If that does not work, my usual go-to method is to take a metal cutting blade and cut along the length of the race inside of the bore (along the axis of the bearing). Once you get thru the race (using extreme caution not to cut into the bore), you can stick a screw driver in there and pry the corner of the bearing away. Then basically roll the bearing away from the bore that it is stuck in, and yank it out with some needle nose pliers. I may not be explaining very well. I found a picture that sort of illustrates what I am talking about. I basically do what is shown below, pulling the race away from the bore that it is stuck in, except I cut the race to make it easier to pull the race away from the bore. The main goal is to get the race to separate from the bore

I work at a car dealership. I gave the linkage to a mechanic who came back ten minutes later (after using a press) with the outer ring removed perfectly. Experience sure pays. Thanks for the tip.
