Hey guys. New Guy here. My name is Scott, I just bought my first dirt bike yesterday. I picked up a ridiculously clean 1993 Kawasaki KDX200 with 970 miles for $1200. I have 2 things I want to do to this bike other than ride it and maintain it.
1) I'd like to add a speedometer. I found this
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/12V-Hour ... 82985.html but if there is any other product (better/guaranteed to work) then hit em with it. I'd like to do it right the first time.
2) I'd like to get rid of the blue seat and get a black one. I found this seat on ebay but it say 95+. Would it still fit my 93 or would it be different?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/2312448787 ... ps&lpid=82
Thanks for the help fellas.

Don't think that's a 93...check the vin sticker on the steering tube. (93 & 94 KDXs have blue USD forks)

That is just an hour meter, not a speedO. A simple bicycle speedometer is fine but something purpose built will be nicer and last longer, such as a Trail Tech unit

89-94 KDXs, also known as the "E" series, are basically the same bike with a few changes over the years. The 95-06 are the same, these are also known as "H" series bikes. On your bike, all the body parts, gas tank, seat and etc. interchange. There where changes on some motor parts that make those a little more year selective.
Thanks for the help fellas.
Welcome! Bike looks pretty clean, but not 970 miles clean. See my other comments in bold above.

Nice looking bike! Along the way of an FYI, that is not a 93. Probably 91/92. If that seat cover comes off in one piece and in good shape, I'd certainly be interested in it!

Thanks for the replies!
I have the VIN so I'll double check it but the guy I bought it from said he changed those fork boots and the replacements he received were black.
The link for that hourmeter says it's an hourmeter/tachometer/speedometer. I saw that trail tech one but when I read "95-07" or whatever it was I looked for something else. So that trail tech would still work on my bike?
Okay that's good. I'll just buy the seat then. Someone said I could try dying the seat but I'd rather just get a new seat
I based how clean it was off of others I've seen for the same price so in my mind it's pretty clean haha

Well the ad said 93, the guy said 93 but the folder full of receipts and everything said 91. I thought that was odd. I'll check the VIN and see what it says
Well I'll definitely keep this updated as far as what I do to it and riding pictures and stuff so when I buy a new seat, I'll keep you in mind. It looks perfect. Not a single rip or anything

Doesn't make much difference anyway. Most bits will be the same. 93/94 came with blue USD forks though, which yours obviously does not have. That puts it at 89-92. Going by the graphics, I want to say 91.

Congratulations on the KDX.
If you buy a seat or seat cover, it needs to be from a 1989 - 1994 KDX200. 1995 and newer won't work.

So which is it? That guy said they interchange and you say they don't. I can keep an eye out for the correct year I just want to know

Welcome
I believe that 6 riders meant all e series parts interchange with e series and all h series interchange with h series so for you thats 89-94 parts! Me too!

Yes, I did mean than 89-94 body parts are interchangeable.
The 95-06 parts DONOT interchange.

Now is this the trail tech speedometer you were talking about?

Just get the EnduranceII
http://www.trailtech.net/digital-gauges/endurance-ii It's cheaper and has all the features that most of us need. Get the one for the 95 KDX or their is a "generic" standard fork model. Either of those will work. The wheel sensor and magnet are different for these 2 models and I would lean towards the KDX model and then find a magnet that fits your wheel.
Also, you can find them much cheaper than on TrailTechs website.
I've never got the tach to work on my Vapor and I don't believe anyone has on a KDX. Having the temp gauge is nice, but you have to cut a radiator hose to mount that.
Either way you really can't go wrong. And I have used a $15 bicycle speedo on a motorcycle before. It lasted about a year and let me know that I didn't need a speedo on that particular bike

Have you tried hooking it up this way?

I actually have it pinned to my desktop. The vapor just doesn't like the KDX, as far as I can tell, it's because of the AC and frame ground combo. It basically doubles (maybe more) the RPMs. It is a known problem with some bikes and w/o converting over to DC, I couldn't figure mine out and wanted to ride, so I just disconnected it (gave up).
