on a 2000 kdx 200 how much free sag should it have?

roughly a third is what I have read.

A third of what?

I'd guess a third of total sag. Never heard of that, but I could see that (free sag and a % of race sag) being something to consider. Suspension gurus think of all sorts cool metrics...

Dwight Rudder's formula:

Front suspension static sag should be 14% ( available travel in mm X .14 = static sag in mm)
Front suspension rider sag should be 25% (X .25 = Rider sag)
Rear suspension static sag should be 11% of available travel (X .11 = static sag)
Rear suspension rider sag should be 34% of available travel (X .34 = rider sag)

You have me confuzzled. The front fork free sag (no rider) should be 1/3 of total travel?

Free sag is without rider, isn't it? Bike weight only?

Sag or race sag, as I understand and use it, is measured by subtracting the length of travel when the bike is sitting on a stand with no weight (I.e. Wheels in then air) minus the length of travel with the rider on the bike fully suited up. This distance is typically 100-110 millimeters or 4 to 4.3 inches, which would put it at roughly 1/3rd the shock tracker of 12". Free sag I thought was the distance between the bike on the stand minus the distance off the stand but with no rider - or so I thought. I've always set the race sag and never really focused on free sag.

Sorry, meant shock *travel* not shock tracker (dang auto correct!) and when I say free sag it is the same measurement Tedh98 refers to as static sag. Also, my comments refer to the rear shock. For the front I just but the right spring for my worth and roll [emoji51]

thanks for the information.thats what i will do.planning on doing forks friday and a test ride saturday here in the midwest
