KDX to KX Master Cylinder Swap - Necessary?

Is it necessary to get a KX master cylinder, or will the stock KDX master cylinder work? If someone wtih a KX front end has used the stock KDX master cylinder, can you report what year KDX you own? I would like to know if only a '95+ master cylinder would work, or if other models would work too.
I searched around, but couldn't find anything definite about this area of a KDX to KX fork swap.
Thanks.

I'm using the complete KDX brake setup. I know Jerry is using a Honda M/C due to how the brakeline mounts. The KDX's brakeline is more susceptible to damage the way it exits the M/C. .

I thought I said I'm using the KDX master cylinder with a KX caliper. It is a 95.

If the cylinder has the standard 1.25 metric thread at 10mm and it will bolt to handlebars, it will work with the stock banjo bolt. I use a Honda Master cylinder because it routes the brake line behind the cylinder instead of in front of it. If anyone is planning on changing out their cylinder, I recommend gettng a Honda one on eBay. I paid $39.99 for a brand new one there.
