Cool, any pics of your bike? Curious what a Swedish 200 E model might look like as international models can vary in colour, frame style, metal gas tank, blinker light, etc

I would imagine the Swedish KDX sits a little taller, has largers headlights and a yellow seat

This is how it looks like, notice my fast photoshop of the registration plate
The bike have been standing in a barn for atleast 2 y, alot of rust on discs pipe and frame.

Also some broken parts

Sprockets and chain looks ok!

Drove it for 10 minutes, motor and gears seems ok, piston should have been changed just before it was put in the barn, ill see if i get the guts to really check it up.
I m going to clean the bike, and have already noticed that the rubberbush between pipe and muffler is cracked, alot of exhaust stuff leaking out from it. It really need some TLC.
I have the manual so ill start reading up and im going to shop some tools a tourqe wrench is prio i guess.
Changed the oil after the 10 min Ride and cleaned the airfilter.
I work at a printshop so ill do some stickertuning later i guess.

Looks alright! UFO front and rear fender, aftermarket handlebars, plastic tank, regular style subframe. All the standard equipment. You are running quite a bit of slack on the chain and looks like you are out of adjuster clicks(Is that a blob of weld attaching the slack adjuster to the rear axle nut?). That chain doesn't look very old, there should be 110 links you may need to chop a couple

Yes I need to take a link of that chain, no tool for it, so i really need to go shopping.
A new plug and a new airfilter, new grips, maaybe a new rear tire, also need to check pressure in tires and check out if fork is ok. Before i go riding.

Actually fantastic how a 24 y old bike still works ok, and as a project make u feel good.
Still need to learn how to ride it though.

You'll know the whole bike top to bottom within 6 months. They are lean, mean, fast and super simple to work on. You'll want to pick up a manual and overhaul the KIPS to get the best performance out of your motor. E series KDX200 have an infamous tendency to chew through the gear teeth on the left and right pinion valves.

Lol google translate doesnt always work as it intentions were ...
Chew on the pinion valves is that a good or bad thing? Should i be worried.
KIPS? Is it like Ypvs on a yamaha? Is it called exhaust valve?
i once owned a rd 350 -86, love the 2 strokes, but ive never maintananced any bike i had, didnt ride them long enough, the worst thing i had to take care of was a burnt valve on a gsxr750-85 i owned many years ago and i needed pros to repair that problem. was expensive!
Still miss my rd, should have kept that bike!
Still, need to grab some tools, learn the bolts & nuts on this bike, and need to learn how to ride it, I have the 174 sides of manual. Wife have her ponys, i have my kdx.

Yep, same idea it's a power-valve system that opens extra exhaust porting at high engine revs

It's like a rack and pinion system for a car's steering. The teeth on the round steering gear become worn down by the rack gear moving back and forth over them. Kawasaki made the valves out of an alloy which doesn't hold up as strong as steel.

This is an example of a valve with the teeth of the gear beginning to strip. That was my valve last month some time with only about 10-15 hours on it

Better example:

Gotanewbike, are aftermarket parts available for that or does one need to scrounge old kdxs to find one?

They are still available from Kawi but they are still the same type of alloy. Keep an eye out, I have been talking to BDK racingteam out of the U.K in the last couple days and they said they should be ready to put up a listing for their steel KMX valves with a spacer bushing kit so they can adapt to work on E series KDX200

I'll post a new thread when I get confirmation that they are available

There is a vey redneck way to solve your chain to long problem. Just grab a grinder and grind the sides of the pins that hold the link on. Then use pliers and bend the extra link off. Do it with the master link out so you only damage the link thats coming off

[quote="Gotanubike"]Is that a blob of weld attaching the slack adjuster /quote]

Yes, its a blob of weld, looks like its been there since bike was new.
I ve been riding on some small roads ment for taking out wood in our forests and the bike is powerful enough for me. Had an hour of fun running there up and down.
Power is smooth from bottom and up. Unused to shifting standing up but need to learn, going shopping for some protection wear tomorrow! Great fun it is!

It's a blob of weld holding the chain adjuster to the axle, not the nut.....all 3 of my axles are like that.
