I have a very beat up 400 on my hands that I want to put back together and I want to plate it. A few problems, I have no swingarm and my engine may have low compression (100 psi dead cold) and the cylinder plating is pretty bad. These parts are rare, the piston and rings are even harder to find. Other than that I have pretty much everything else to put it back together. I have done a few non titled motorcycles through vermont but never an off road bike before. Has anyone gone this way? Im from PA so its quite hard to get anything titled thats not meant to be. Its not that big of a deal but I would like a dual sport especially a 2 stroke.

Well I compression tested the engine again but this time in warmer weather came out to 125psi. I decided to fire it up and a couple of kicks in sneakers then a couple more in work boots and it's alive!!!!! The exhaust is leaking somewhere though not sure if it's the pipe or head but I'm happy that it runs

Thanks! I got a lead on the rear end $200 is pretty steep but for how hard it is to find those parts its worth it. might be able to ride it come tuesday


Got the rear wheel, shocks, and seat today. the seat is damn near mint. Tire is pretty much brand new the wheel is amazing. Progressive shocks too

had a guy here similar to you in where he couldn't find the rear shocks or a decent set. He went with I do believe Honda ex shocks for his older kawi. They have the res's with them and look bad ass on there. I sat on it and it was incredibly plush. I asked him where he got the idea and he said it was from a streetfighter older bike and some café racers built around here. He found a pair and went back to what he had. He said the shocks were just that much better and to boot they are rebuildable. Now I keep seeing them everywhere around here on older Hondas and suzukis and yamahas. Seen a guy here with a Yamaha 750 special....(I have one too so I knew) but he had a set of works shocks on his. Man I thought geez the shocks are worth more then the bike rofl.
