Kx500 good or?

I have heard a few people complain that the kx500 forks aren't very good on trails. I ride single track and basically north idaho terrain. Will the kx 500 forks be fine? If so what year?
Also is there any parts that I can take from different years and bikes that will work?

Thanks

Look up:

MX forks on a trail bike (revalve)

geometry (travel limiting spacers)

also, correct fork spring rate

Where can I find the spacers? Also what is the best year for the forks?

Someone recently posted a company that has service for travel limiting. Most suspension companies can do it.

As best I remember, for KX500 forks:

1997 - 2004 KX500 forks are equivalent to 1996 KX125 / KX250

1996 KX500 forks are equivalent to 1995 KX125 / KX250

1994 / 1995 KX500 forks are equivalent to 1994 KX125 / KX250

1991 - 1993 KX500 forks are equivalent to 1991 KX125 / KX250

1991 and older KX500 forks are equivalent to KX125 / KX250

So I am guessing the 97-04 is the best.

Yep. EDIT:

That would at least put you into technology from the summer of 1995. 19 years old....better than the technology from summer of 1987.

Have you had any experience with the yz250 swap or know anyone on here that has?
