KX Fork swap internal shortening….How LOW?

Hey guys. Found a shop that is going to install a spacer to shorten the forks internally so I don't have to slide them up so high in the triple clamps. My seals were leaking anyway and forks were in need of a rebuild. Explained my issue to him……"can't raise them up higher because they will contact the bars" so now trying to figure out how much lower. I know I could raise the bars, but that's another issue due to my steering damper. So here I am.
Unfortunately, I failed to take the proper measurements before the swap. Tentatively I asked for 1/2", but thinking 3/4" may be closer. '01 KX Forks on an '04 KDX.
If anyone has done this please let me know, or….if there's a link I haven't been able to find. Thx in advance.
Don

How much did that give you above the top clamp. I've got about 1/4" above the clamp and I could get to clickers and bleeders.

Keep in mind that your travel will be decreased the same amount so you want to shorten them the absolute minimum necessary to fit them up.

Has anyone got any pictures of this mod and how it's done.

Believe me, I am no suspension guru but my understanding is that it's a spacer, possibly in the shim stack, which decreases the travel. In return, it lowers the "neutral" position allowing the front end to sit lower. Seems counterintuitive that a spacer would lower it but I have full confidence in my suspension techs abilities. He's been doing it for many years and is claimed by many to be the best around. I'll let you know the results when I get them back.
Think I'm going to go with 3/4" which would allow some wiggle room with my current setup. He will start on them next week so there is still a little time if anyone has input.
Thx

I didn't have it done, the forks I bought where junk, so I'm waiting for another set. Here is the write up of what the guy I go through does;
