OK, so the manual that I have simply does say anything but "take them out then put them in". I am replacing all my bearings and can't get these out...what direction do a press them out (push out to the inside or outside)? How hard should it be to take them out?

 Darn bearings!

If I remember correctly you have an E-model right? Single bearing on each side. Easiest way is to drive it out from the inside using a socket that matches the diameter and a 12" extension. On the H/220 it's more of a pain because you have two bearings on each side that have to be driven out in opposite directions. If they have never been out it can take quite a bit to get them moving...some heat and penetrating oil soak will help.

I used my big vice and sockets and pressed them out of the swingarm and linkage. I greased the new bearing before I put them in to keep the needles from falling out.

just a heads up. If for some reason like my bike, you have to lay the thing over and beat the *(#$&%&* outta the swingarm bolt, put something over the kickstarter shaft, like a piece of wood. In a moment of dazzling brilliant, I let the recoil of my follow through(3 lb sledge, 18" handle, mapp gas, oxy/acet torch, pb blaster, 14 yrs college baseball bat swinger) go over to my kickstarter shaft. I blew out the back side of the kickstarter shaft housing which happens to be the right side engine case. :naughty:
