Just wanted to pass the word that we raced and won at the 24 hour race at Glen Helen this past weekend on a 1989 kdx 200. There were six of us on the team ranging in age from 14 to 54. The bike was built from the ground up using 1987 CR 250 forks and front brake, PSI pipe, PRO Curt S/A silencer, Rox bar risers, Fredette cylinder, V-Force reed/block, and many other aftermarket parts. The bike did pretty good although we rode it with a smashed pipe for 22 hours and a failed power valve. The clutch (EBC)got so hot we almost couldn't pull the lever, and rear tire was to small (my fault). Here's the youtube link. If it doesn't come up then lookup kenmoto16 and open the title on the top and then choose 24 hr at Glen Helen. I will say that the bike did great but we didn't spend enough test time on it. My 14 year old son, just coming off a major injury did a shake down GP race on it three weeks ago. We rides a new KTM 125 and felt the KDX had a great engine but thought the brakes sucked and didn't like the shifting under power. He got second overall in the on pro class. The bike really could have used a steering damper, lower gearing, and as I said before a bigger rear tire. We set the suspension up stiff because we knew it was going to really get slammed on the mx track and also felt the suspension would break down after 24 hours. The Baja design light was crazy good. These were costly but they were the best I ever used and they were reliable.
