gas leak.

Was riding bike last week and noticed near the end bike was revving up and down at idle. Thougt it was running out of gas the way it was surging. Filled up bike tonight and it started 2 kick and ran great.Went up an off camber hill with a limb across it and layed the bike over.Noticed fuel running out of overflows and just assumed it would stop after firing bike back up.Rode around a lil more and when I went to put bike in shed noticed fuelrunning out of overflow even when I shut it off. When I turn off petcock it stops but flows out again when I turn lever on again. Couple months ago disassembled and cleaned carb and bike always runs great with no issues. Any ideas on what could be causing this leak? Thanks.

Stuck float or something lodged in the float needle

Yep, float likely stuck or needle stuck. Easy fix, pull the carb. If it has the plastic floats isnpect them for holes, have heard of some that get filled with fuel (then they dont float anymore). Also check your fuel line/tank/petcock/strainer for debris that could be responsible.

Mine would intermittently do this after I had the carb resting on its side for 2 weeks while servicing the bike. First I tried checking the fuel stop needle, float pivoting lever and float level. No explanation, but it just stopped after running the bike. Lesson learned for me was always store a carburetor upright!

Having said that, my petcock doesn't really work that well either, so when I have a full tank of fuel, the weight of the fuel will gravity feed itself out the overflow drip by drip.
