Thanks for posting this stuff. I've been thinking about swapping mine to LED instead of winding the stator

Pretty cool! I've wondered if an led like that would work on AC.

Thanks for this post. Looks really interesting.
Only problem I see is the lack of high and low beam, if needed. I suppose it would be easy enough to mount 2 of them, one aimed low and the other high, and use a dimmer switch to flip from one to the other.

If you're handy with electronics like that I'm sure you could open it up and separate 3 of the leds from the other 3 so you have hi and lo. You'll probably have to swap out the resistors for ones with different values and add another one and a diode for the other series.

my hi and low beam are integrated in the throttle
turn it down for low beam crack it open for high

I'm talking about high and low beams to satisfy law enforcement requirements. My KDX is plated. I would think using just 3 of the 6 LEDs would cut the light output in half @ the low setting, and would not change where the high and low beams are aimed.

They just need to see a switch in brightness for inspection purposes but while driving around on the road you could just leave all 6 on all the time unless someone flashes you.
Does Illinois check the aim of your lights during inspection? Texas did a long time ago but not anymore.

It works because the power is DC

Lighting coil is AC, goes through a regulator/RECTIFIER converting to DC.

Since when did these bikes start getting rectifiers Fuzzy?

Great job on this . If you do convert your bike to dc would you mind doing a write up on it?
Cheers

Actually not really sure. I was prepared to undergo a DOT inspection, but when I finally got all the paperwork straightened out, I lucked out with a road legal title. Still, If I were going to do any night riding, I would want good high and low beam capability.
