Dude that is so awesome! How have you not ridden it yet??? Did you end up with a 120 front and 150 rear?

I was going to convert my kdx over to supermoto but now I'm going to keep for dirt and do the ATK instead since I got that now, plus I think I will like the extra power for the street a lot more. My friend is going to convert his 87 husky wr 250 also, they should be a blast.

Hurry up and go ride that thing so you can give us a ride report, a video would be cool too if you have a Gopro or something.

thanks for the comments guys

Roadhazardguy,
pretty much only finished it just before taking the pics etc, will get it fuelled up tomorrow, and let you know about the ride, unfortunately I don't have a camera that can record while I am riding.
I went with a 120 - 160.

cornishwrecker220,
thanks Alan, gone with a 14 - 45 sprocket set up.

best regards
john

WOW! That's nice!

Can you provide details on the lighting equipment you are using? Especially the wattage requirements. Did you do an upgrade to the lighting coil, or do you have an SR multiple coil set-up?

stock stator,
led rear tail & brake, I purchased twin leds for the front, but they must have sent me dc rather than ac, as they blew the first time I tried them! standard front bulbs are 20w each, leds where 12w each, 4 x 3w cree leds in each bulb, throwing out about 480 lumens

Very nice indeed. I love my 1990, KDX240SM.
I fixed the lighting issue by adding a TrailTech Rectifier/regulator and a battery. Swapped out a full street
wiring harness from a GasGas EC250, so I got the horn, turn lights, brake and hi/lo head light. I used LEDs
for the tail/brake and turn lights. The head light is the stock filament bulb.
Your 160/17 rear is huge. Do you have any chain rub, or did you have to offset the wheel?
Sweet bike, enjoy the ride.
Jeff

you know, if you slapped some knobbies on there that would be a great starter bike
where is the seat height at with those rims, 30-31 inches ?

hi Jeff,
I did some homework and knew the 160 rear would only end up measuring around 150 across when fitted to the rear 4.25 rim, so I never ended up having to offset it, plus I used a DID VT2 narrow x-ring chain.

how do you find your hi/lo headlight with the reg/rec? what wattage bulb do you use? and what battery?
I looked into doing this myself, but read from people who had done it before that the stock stator is that poor that the lights where worse when converted to DC??

lol, I do still have my knobbies, so can convert back whenever I like

took a measurement for you, roughly where I would sit on the bike it is 39 inches.

I am 5' 11", with the mx wheels sat on the bike I would be on tip toes, with the motard wheels I am flat footed.

I am pretty sure it is a 35/35W bulb. I just had to change the connector that the bulb plugs into. I am not
sure what bike it came from stock, but, it was the same size and plugged right in the plastic lense
housing. As far as I can tell the light output is every bit as good as stock... = poor for street riding at
night. I try not to be out at night with the bike, but, it has happened. I had the stator rewound by
a company called "Ricky Stator". I have not tested it so I do not know the output. I would assume
I am close to using all the output the stator can make when running all the lights at night. It may
eventually run the battery dead if I were to ride it for several hours. I think I am using a 5a/hr sealed
lead acid battery. The longest I have ridden at night has been ~10 miles.
Next time I service the bike and remove the body work. I should take some pictures of the conversion.
You can search the web for "KDX240SM" and find some of the pictures I have posted.
Enjoy your ride, you did a nice job on it.
Jeff

That is an awesome build. There was a mid 90s 250 ninja for sale locally but I called 20 minutes too late. My plan was to put my spare 97 kx 250 motor in it.
Realizing the chance to find a Ninja dirt cheap won't happen soon so I sold the motor.
Again congrats on a terrific build.
