I am changing the fork seals and oil on my 92 KDX 250SR. I was wondering if the oil was measured by volume or if you do (x) amount of oil from the top of the tubes. Thx all!

By level, not quantity

I have seen 90 - 130 mm often enough for different forks to say that if you can't find the right level you could start there.

Pretty sure the 92 KDX250 is the same inverted fork on the 93-94 200. According to the manual fork oil capacity is 471 ± 4 mL. The standard fork oil level is 80 ± 2 mm with the fork spring removed and the fork fully compressed. Specification for front fork cap bolt torque is 29 N-m or 22 ft-lb. Like Rbates said, it's so nearly identical on all bikes that you're sure to be in the ballpark starting there.

I think the SR 250 has 43mm tubes, not 41mm, like the USA 1993 - 1994 KDX200, so more oil. (though not level)

Don't know if Sr are diff. From us but race tech recommended 120 mm on my 93 kdx 250. I don't remember cc but I needed a little over a qt. To do both.

It mean plus or minus 2. So 78-82

Can't you measure it either by volumn or level? Pretty sure most shop manuals give the specs both ways.

Just one recommendation from me.....use 7.5 weight oil, if you can't find it you can make it. It is "made" by mixing equal amounts of 5 wt and 2.5 wt oils before adding to your forks and then pour in the amount/measurement that you want. I would go with the minimum and then adjust volume by adding 5 cc at a time (per leg) with a syringe ( you can buy the correct size syringe from a moto shop). That is the best way to fine tune these forks that don't have adjustable rebound dampening.

Wouldn't you mix 5w and 10w to get to 7.5w?

Someone once told me that atf is 7.5 wt. If this is the case that would be much easier, could someone confirm.
