I posted this also in another topic ... "My first post... questions"

Thought it might garner a bit more interest with it's own posting.

Bike is a 2004 KDX220. Bike is all stock, including the piston.

Well, here it is. I debated on taking the stock piston out because the bike was running great. It's a good thing I pulled the jug! Thanks to all of you who suggested I inspect/replace the piston. Sage advice! The first crack is obvious. The second one is smaller and almost looks like a piece of lint... it isn't. Looks like it started in a small hole.

The underside of my piston looks a bit discolored. Possibly running too hot??? I don't know. What does that indicate to you guys?

Thanks for the help.

Ha! So, we saved your bacon, huh? I'm happy that we helped save another one before it was too late. Just barely, though!

Mine had the exact same crack in it when I tore it down. It was also running great at the time.

I don't have any idea. Although, it didn't appear to me the bike had a lot of hours on it.

Get rid of those stock pistons!
