What year is my E series KDX 200?

So, I had this KDX for lots of years now. I absolutly love it! Kdx's are the best all around dirt bike out there ( well, except front forks). the fellow that sold me the bike said it was a 1990 model. After reding a couple articles, I found that some people are saying that E-1 stamped in the head means 1989, E-2 stamped in the head means it's 1990. Is this true? Mine says E-1, so if that's true, then my bike would be 1989? Can anyone confirm these facts?

Thanx.

Yes a E1 is an '89. If you have any doubts check the VIN, the 8th character from the right will be a K. If it is an 89. 1990 will be an L.

Oops! Sorry. I should have got back to u. Yea, u were right. It's an 89. The 8th character in the vin# from right to left is L. I'm glad u could help.
I guess the only main difference in the motor between the 89 and 90 is different water pump seals tho. But it's good to know that my KDX is a 89, so now I can stop telling people it's a '90. Thanx.

Oh wait. If the 8th character is L, then it's a 1990, right? My mistake. I wonder if someone threw a 89 top end or maybe even complete motor in my chassis? Weird. But it definitely says E-1 on the head, and it definitely says L 8 characters over in the Vin #.

They usually have the date on the sticker on the head tube also. But if the VIN has an L it is a 90 to the gooberment.

My VIN# is an "R" which indicates a 94 model but I also have an E-1 head.

Sounds like someone rebuilt the top end before you got it with a1989 head. That was the case with mine.
