I would be more inclined to use an epoxy as not to impair the original
coating on the wire.

And why would you think that coating would impair the original coating? It is specifically designed for electrical components and motor windings.

A lacquer based coating will melt into the original coating
that could possibly cause a short with in the winding.
Not saying it will defiantly cause a problem but this is
a possibility.

Not sure I see where it is specifically for motor windings ?

Recommended Uses: Televisions, radios, stereos, transformers, switchboard parts, sealing electrical/electronic components.

Just leave it without epoxy. Will allow you to get a few extra wraps in there. Like I said, it's TIGHT under that flywheel.

Should put even a thin coating on it.

I tried an extremely thin coat of epoxy paste on mine and once it dried it wouldn't fit under the flywheel.

I may have missed it in this thread, but where can you buy the wire to do this? I am not ready to tackle it right now, but in the future if I can get my hands on a spare coil I think I would like to try it.

Thanks man, I see that guy is in Pittsburgh so shipping will be fast when I decide to do this haha.

Something I've wondered is if there ought to be a general "How-to" section of the forum along with the hybrid and fork swap areas, where these kinds of things can be stored and kept for future users. Might be better than keeping too many stickies at the top of the General Q&A section? Just spitballin' here ... and not trying to hijack the thread either.

Yeah, an "archive" area would be nice. Only admin/mods could add threads but members could still post in the threads there kind of thing.
