And I didnt mean to be A-hole, even though it sounded sarcastic. I liked the pics. Gets you thinking. I was thinking a little v-tab might be good idea for the existing trail tech even for my KDX frame, if the engine was out sometime. Would be nice to lose the Home Depot / farmer bracket I have there now.

I've just learned that we have another 2004 KX125/250 kickstand option that several people have grafted onto our KDX's...

Do you have a link where the guys are talking about the installation on the KDX? I'd like to read more about it if so. I have a trail tech and like it but I'm not dragging the skid plate over big logs or boulders. I wouldn't like it so much if I was.

I had to remove the foot, cut off about 3/4" and reinstall the foot. On the pro moto billet, cutting it down isn't an option without welding it back together.

What model trail tech did you buy so it fitted 5400 00 for the kx 250?

Better late than never, if you haven't figured it out, now you can't really run the UFO frame guards as they are stock with this kickstand mod. It requires welding and fabrication to do these the correct way no matter what, so that they will actually support your weight on the side stand for more than a year or two without cracking the flimsy chain roller tab that is not meant to hold up your weight, which all these bolt to.

I might convert to Yamaha aluminum frame style bolt on foot peg mounts and use the Trail Tech kickstand bracket that is integrated into the foot peg mount, then I can use Yamaha titanium foot pegs without modifying them to fit the KDX frame as I had planned to do originally, else I will weld on part of the Trail Tech kickstand bracket to the frame like the KDX 220 SR factory kickstand is, and the way all KDX's should have been, sadly only the street legal 220 model got it nationally. I have two of the KDX 220 SR swing arms being shipped from Japan as they don't have the welded on kickstand mounting lug like all the rest do, e-series, 220r, 200h, KDX 250 etc. that way I don't have to Mill off and TIG weld shut the holes. I'll strip them and sand and highly polish them plus clear coat + 3M adhesive backed thick clear vinyl protective wrap layer on the flat outer surfaces.

03 KX/RM kickstand bracket is what most people have used in the past, and what I used, but I had to heavily modify mine on the second go-around, after cracking the chain roller tab, I welded on a reinforcing gusset to it on the frame, and welded a bunch of extra metal to the kxrm kickstand bracket and then milled it flat, drilled a new hole, chop the top off, drilled a new lower mounting hole as well, countersunk the upper bolt in my milling machine etc.


Long story short, I feel that the 2004 and earlier Yamaha YZ steel frame Trail Tech kickstand brackets will work significantly better and are closer as stock than what the KX RM bracket is that everyone uses.

There's one guy that used this and it looked a lot easier than what I had to go through, to get the same results basically. Better dimensions. There are a couple different models but they are all fairly similar, browse the photos on their website for the brackets. The KX RM bracket is too tall.

Somewhere on this forum I posted my photos of the extensive mods I did to fit mine. Search Trail Tech kickstand and search for my username and you will find them.
