I know a few guys that used VIN checking sites. It did not detect that VIN was reported stolen. I wouldn't trust any of those free sites.
So they ended up buying stolen bikes? If the police aren’t helping, how do they find people’s bikes when they get stolen??
So you have to pay to get anything reliable about the vin??
Yes the bikes were stolen. They tried to reg them at DMV and they grabbed all the papers and said they had 2 weeks to return the bike to the police impound yard. Same thing happened to diff 2 guys.

Wow! So the only way to find out in those states is to call the DMV??

Unless you know someone at the DMV, or have a buddy in LE who can look it up. I knew a guy who would call various PD's around the east coast and try to chat up a bored officer who might look it up for him....it worked a few times apparently.

I’ve been peeking myself, closest I got was a ‘95 with a purple seat.

It has not been on there but for just a few days. I saw it, too. I do a lot of looking and no buying. :-)

A lot might be an understatement; you see anything KDX related before anybody

That guy won’t respond. I have learned over the past couple of weeks that when they want to “trade only” 50% of the time they know the bike is stolen and the other 50% of the time they r looking to trade a $900 bike for a $4000 boat or quad, when they know their bike is a roach. So I have found a 250. Do I stay away from them and just stick to the 200’s???

What 250?
What are you hoping to get from riding, race, general usage or what?

I’m cool with a kdx 200 or kdx 250. I’m a bigger guy anyway at 6’, 1”, 225lbs. I’m used to riding a 450. I had a 2007 Husky Te450 that I bought new, and while the power was there, that thing was a pig to ride in the woods. Wide open flats and hills were more natural places for it. I’m just wondering if there are any weird things I need to know about the kdx 250. I’d b happy with one and probably more happy with the power. What I’m mostly looking for is a bike that I can make new again, then ride, not race, just fast paced riding when I want it. I know the 200 a little, I have ridden an older one that was clapped out and still was pretty fast, but just wondering if there are any known issues with the 250. Hard to start, pistons blowing up, etc. the biggest thing will be parts availability. Any thoughts on any of this would be aporeciated. I have found a couple that would make good project bikes and happen to be more in my budget. If everyone thinks the kdx 250 is as great as the kdx 200 and just as easy to get parts for, this will open me to a little wider range of possibilities. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Parts availability is better on the 1995+ KDX200.
KDX250 is a fair bit heavier than a 200 / 220R.

I’ve read a few people saying they like the balance of the 200 the best.

Just the frame?
I can not remember the specifics of when I weighed my '91 KDX250 back in 2005 or so, but it was 273 pounds. Lifting one onto a work stand will let one know it is DEFINITELY more than 11 pounds more than any KDX200 / KDX220R.
