Figured I'd get the compression tester out. We'll see how good this starter can turn over the engine.

Great write up and photos Molly, your post has me rethinking my decision not to buy but the $1600+ Canadian is a big chunk of change but sure would be a nice addition.
Do you mind me asking a few questions, how do you find the electronic components quality, what battery do they recommend, is it the equivalent to a Antigravity AG-801 or the thinner SC-1 and just curious how much wider is the starter flywheel cover compared to the stock one, does it stick out a lot?

Thank you, James.

I have been reading battery papers & learned I need to buy a battery charger for this. I don't have a proper charger. Not to worry.
I'll get it figured out. $$$

All Forum Readers:
it occurred to me when reviewing the photos showing the fixed gear and anchoring nut that flywheel mass is inherently increased. I hadn't thought about this until following Molly's installation. Increased flywheel weight could be a good thing in some applications. It may be undesirable in other applications.

What do you think?

The total weight of the sprocket assembly, Is 1 pound-10 grams or 464 grams. This is a Wal Mart kitchen scale.

Any unwanted weight gain is a small price to pay compared to pressing a button. Not everyone is a young whippersnapper like billie. :partyman: I think adding a starter for about a thousand would be terrific compared to buying a used or new different bike that has one. It is a great option.

KDX-G: concur. Panthera says the entire system is slightly less than 6 lbs.

ALL: been thinking more about increase to flywheel weight. Molly's' photos help a lot. The additional 1 lb. (16 oz.) the flywheel fixed gear & anchor nut contribute is on the flywheel "face." It's not on the flywheel circumference. So, it will provide much less influence than an actual add-on flywheel weight. Now, I'm curious to see if it adds any truly noticeable affect.

I used the included special tool & my torque wrench to 40 ft lbs. Both are 1/2" drive.

I used Permatex Ultra Black just where the grommet for electrical wires are per the instructions. I installed the starter/cover with supplied gasket soon after. The long screw goes in the center behind the gears. Directions say to add 300ml of ATF. I went to the local auto parts store. I picked this brand for whatever reason. I usually use Amsoil. I'll probably put the oil in last thing, then install the figure 8 cover as it's called in the directions.

You need to verify the main gear spins freely after the main cover is installed. Then, you need to measure from the main gear face to the figure 8
shaped gasket surface. Expected measurement is between 17.5mm - 20.5mm. Mine measured 19.58mm. I'm with in spec.
