ALL Kawi's came with reed stops. My 175, 200, and my JetSki's all have them. If you determine that you have a stock reed block and stock reeds and you want the stops, or you just want to start over, there are several OEM reed blocks on eBay for cheap.

It looks like the PO put Boyeson dual stage Power Reeds on this. Maybe those don't call for using the stops. He didn't have them on. I purchased the Boyeson single stage Super Stock reeds and I think I can hear them fluttering when I decelerate.

I cleaned the carb and re-installed it along with an iridium spark plug. Didn't install the air filter or silencer. She started on the second kick!

The air filter was pretty clean, so I suspect the silencer was all plugged up.

So I pulled the silencer apart, and yes it is completely jammed with carbon.

I have a couple more newbie questions:

(1) A couple of the baffles are broken. I'd like to weld or braze them back together. Anything I need to know before I try? EG are they stainless steel, or some other exotic material?
(2) The packing is completely gone. Can I just stuff some repack material in there to replace it? Or is there some kind of screen in there? (Picture in this thread: http://www.kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopi ... 5&p=167539)

My silencer is just a small cylinder of a metal screen material. It has hundreds of holes. New packing material (or fiberglass home insulation at the very least) can be bought easily. Scrape the carbon off of those little holes. Slide the pipe and packing back in the outer can and you're golden.

So, it was a little more complex than just cleaning the silencer... (of course!)

I found it wouldn't run reliably. Sometimes it would fire right up, but other times it would run and then die after a few seconds.

I tracked it down to a flakey ignition coil. Got a new one from rmstator.com and all is well. ROOST TIME!!
